The history of Bolivia, exclusively told by Carlos Mesa Gisbert. This work of non fiction was written in 2010 with the objective of documenting the decisive march for democracy in Bolivia, which started on August 2, 2008, when Evo Morales was sworn into office for his second term as President. The book covers the history of Bolivia leading up to Morales’ inauguration and also includes a comprehensive account of how that historic day unfolded. It gives insight into the political situation that arose during Chavez’s presidency and details what led to his ouster on December 8th at a time when hope for a peaceful transition grew thin. It also chronicles the steady progress made in expanding democracy from above, to below, and from below to above, which culminated in the historic Bolivian revolution of 2015. The title of this work is "Historia de Bolivia" written by Carlos Mesa Gisbert. The work has been written to cover the history of Bolivia from ancient times until Evo Morales was sworn into office as president again on August 2nd 2010. Carlos Mesa Gisbert is a historian who holds a PhD in Latin American History and has worked at the UN since he left graduate school. He is presently at USAID and serves as a Senior Advisor to UNIFEM (the United Nations Development Fund for Women). He also wrote "Tragedia de una Masacre en La Paz 2009" which is a book about the tragedy that happened in Bolivia in 2009. The book is divided into 6 chapters: Chapter 1: Introductory Chapter Chapter 2: The Caudillos and the fiercest attempted coup of the 20th Century to date Chapter 3:1914 to 1990-the evolution of democracy in Bolivia Chapter 4: 1990 through 2001-an era of economic growth and democratic consolidation Chapter 5: 2001 to 2005-challenges, violence and political change Chapter 6: 2005 to 2015-evolution from a democratic regime towards a true people’s government. Evolution of Democracy in Bolivia The evolution of democracy is a very important topic in this book. The chapter explains how the history of Bolivia shows that the country has some bad experiences with its leadership. For example, Ulises Perez Gutiérrez had some economic problems while he was president, so he decided to declare war on Paraguay in 1865. He did not win the war, and instead lost. When he lost, he demanded that his people give him 10 million dollars because of what happened with him losing the war. When they did not give him the money, he left office. Carlos Mesa Gisbert, in his book "Historia de Bolivia" has highlighted the importance of the constitution and the importance of democratic elections. He explains that under Ulises Perez Gutiérrez, the laws and constitution were severely violated and there were no democratic elections. He explained that in 2021, it will be necessary to replace this old constitution with a new one. This means that it will be necessary for Bolivia to hold a referendum to make people vote on whether they want a new constitution or not. The votes will need to be at least 200% of those who voted in favor of changing the old constitution. cfa1e77820
